11th October 2008 The Big Draw - Dancing in St Georges Square

On this gloriously sunny day, the pupils of St Charalambos school added to the atmosphere at this event, organised by Luton Cultural Services Trust – Museums Luton, Luton Libraries and the Hat Factory, by bringing a touch of Greek style.

The older boys and girls performed a number of dances in different styles, and the younger ones performed their own showcase dance. The crowds that gathered to watch were impressed with the high-kicking and the school pupils looked very smart.

As Sam, acting as compare for the dancing, said, one thing that Greeks are very good at is making friends, and although the last dance started with just the older children, by the end the crowd was joining in too.

This event gave us the opportunity to share some of our culture and our pride in being Greek, and the weather and location happily came together to give the feeling of a real Greek village square.
